trivia on a Friday night

Posted in: General

Trivia night tonight.
What is my special category?
I think it will have to be ‘unexpected songs covered by Johnny Cash on his last couple of CDs’.
That’s what I’ve been listening to over the last couple of hours.
Did Johnny Cash ever cover anything by the ‘Jesus and Mary Chain’? Yes!
What about Nick Cave? Yes! (But not unexpected.)
Nine Inch Nails? Yes, again!
Neil Diamond? Yes, indeed!
U2? Better than the first time round!
And a lot of other stuff too.
What’s more – it’s fantastic.

I loved Johnny’s “The Wanderer” from U2’s Zooropa album. Sounds like I might have to have a listen to this as well.

    So… Didja win???
More interestingly, did any Johnny Cash questions actually come up?

oh boy, yet more smith st hoi polloi jumping on a dead mans bandwagon. fyi – he also covered bruce springsteen, willie nelson, kris kristofferson etc. i have a fair bit of JC including very early sun era rockabilly. if you listen to teh gospel LP’s that he made when he first went to columbia in teh late 50’s you’ll find that ALL of teh songs were ‘covers’ of standard southern gospel music, with that JC touch.

sadly, no beach boys covers ;-(

    here endeth the rant

How about Beck’s “Rowboat”, he does a good version of that.
